Experts say stamp duty adds a further two-and-a-half years to an average worker’s journey in saving for a house deposit. Under the new First Home Buyer Choice scheme, house hunters can choose to opt out of stamp duty by paying an annual levy of $400 plus 0.3 per cent of the land value of the property. Eligible first-home buyers can choose to join the scheme from January 16 next year.Parents
Mums and dads who send their preschoolers to long daycare will receive up to $2000 per child aged four and five. The subsidy will be paid directly to daycare centres and deducted from fees, based on hours of attendance. There will also be up to $4000 a year in fee relief for children aged three to five at community or mobile preschools funded by the NSW Department of Education.
