The arrival of winter has brought the year's first dumping of snow in New South Wales, as strong winds drive down the temperature.
The first day of winter has arrived with an icy bite, with the first dumping of snow for the season on the New South Wales Central Tablelands.The "feels like" temperature plummeted to -8 degrees Celsius at OrangeResidents at Blayney, Bathurst, Oberon and west of Lithgow have reported falls on Tuesday night, as temperatures plummeted."It's pretty heavy ... it is settling on the road, and it is pretty thick; it's up to your ankles," she said.
"We are expecting those winds possibly in the damaging range we do have a severe weather warning for damaging winds," she said. "While we have showers on the forecast, we're not expecting snow as much of a feature given the atmosphere will have moved on in a sense."Heavy falls in the NSW Snowy Mountains have prompted Perisher ski resort to open early this season.
