Slalom skiing is a sport that falls under the Alpine skiing discipline, where athletes ski through several poles called gates.
According to the International Olympic Committee
, slalom skiing is one of the five events of Alpine skiing — super-G, downhill, combined, giant slalom, and slalom — and is considered the fastest and the one with the quickest turns out of the five sporting events under the Alpine skiing umbrella. Athletes are required to ski down a vertical slope of varying lengths. For men, the slope is 180m to 200m. For women, the slope is 140m to 180m.
They are also required to ski through “gates,” which consist of two plastic poles that alternate between the colors of red and blue.
