Parts of the Midwest are expected to get several inches of snow starting Friday as a fast-moving winter storm system moves across the region and into the Mississippi Valley, the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center said.
A swath of central Iowa and parts of southern Minnesota are forecast to get as much as eight to 12 inches of snow, according to the weather service. Sections of South Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois and most of Iowa were under a winter storm warning as of Friday afternoon, meaning snow, sleet or ice is expected and will likely have a significant impact.
