Wintry scenes in Manchester city centre as canals freeze over and people huddle for warmth
It's a sharp-intake-of-breath-cold-day. It's a clasp-the-radiator cold day. It's a swearing-under-your-scarf cold day.
That being said, Mancs are carrying on. Despite the mercury dipping below zero on Monday morning again , town was busy with commuters, Christmas shoppers, and tourists alike.Suited and booted with the now-mandatory triumvirate of hat-scarf-gloves, most were waddling through the city's streets to avoid slipping on some ice.
Of course, that would be a hot chocolate to ease the pain of England's men's soul-destroying loss to France on Saturday. Throughout all of that, however, there was beauty. Steam rose from the Tower of Light, creating the perfect silhouette for the city's skyscrapers. Canals froze over, to provide the geese a rare ice skating opportunity. And relief was evident on the faces of those finding some warmth.snappers. So sit back, grab a blanket, and enjoy.
