I Wish I Win might not have the inside running to victory in The Everest from barrier 1.

The debate over whether I Wish I Win should be The Everest favourite has divided bookmakers ahead of the $20 million showcase at Randwick on Saturday.

But given that I Wish I Win is a backmaker that needed room as he swept home from well back in the field for victories in the Golden Eagle and TJ Smith Stakes, the fear is he could get stuck on the fence in The Everest when he needs to make his charge. “It defies any wisdom that drawing closer to the rail is better in any race, and by the time they jump I think I Wish I Win will be favourite again.”

“Think About It might have won eight in a row, which punters love, but I just think he is going to find this race a bit hot. I Wish I Win has only been to Sydney twice but has won more than $7 million in taking out last year’s Golden Eagle and the TJ Smith Stakes, and he would double that by winning The Everest, which carries a $7 million first prize. He remains popular with punters despite the to-and-fro over his inside draw.
