Australian chef de mission Geoff Lipshut said he was thrilled for Parker “after a very difficult ride”. The results mean that Parker will be able to fulfil her Olympic dream on Wednesday, however given Beijing’s tight testing protocols there is the chance that she could test positive again in China before flying out of the country.
But those hopes now appear to be dashed after China’s strict testing regime picked up the residual infection, forcing Parker into isolation on arrival. “However, if Katie returns further positive tests, it will be impossible for her to compete in the women’s slalom tomorrow. That is the unfortunate reality. It is a risk she understood before travel.”
