"I think we can consider it as being an event very much at the intersection of long-term dynamics within Syria and short-term geopolitical changes," Jihad Yazigi, the editor of the Syria Report website, told the ABC. Israel has killed several key Iranian commanders in Syria this year, depriving the militias and the Syrian government of experience and coordination."So it's a major defeat for them, it's a major weakening of the Iranian hand there. But I still think that at the end of the day, the Israelis, what they want is a weakening of Iran. But they also want some form of stability. They basically want someone in Damascus they can talk to, to whom they can basically give orders.
"Türkiye gave the green light understanding that normalisation attempts with Damascus failed," Turkish analyst Omer Ozkizilcik, from the Atlantic Council, told the BBC."From now on we will see that Türkiye's positioning in Syria is much, much stronger than it was before."
