A woman suspected of sending an envelope containing the poison ricin to the White House has been arrested at the United States-Canada border.Several other letters containing the substance were sent to law enforcement officials in TexasThe woman was taken into custody by US Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo in New York State and is expected to face federal charges.She is expected to appear in court in Buffalo on Tuesday.
It was intercepted at a US Government facility that screens mail addressed to the White House and President Donald Trump.Ricin is found naturally in castor beans, but it takes a deliberate act to convert it into a biological weapon. Envelopes containing ricin were also reportedly mailed to law enforcement agencies in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas.One of the envelopes was sent to police in Mission, Texas, said Investigator Art Flores, a spokesman for the border community’s police department.William Clyde Allen III was arrested in 2018 on suspicion of sending envelopes containing castor seeds to President Donald Trump and top military chiefs.
