Police and department correctional teams were conducting a search at the Yatala Prison yesterday when they allegedly found a number of contraband items on a woman in the buffer zone. The 48-year-old from Mitchell Park allegedly had a homemade taser, an ice pipe, drug scales, four grams of suspected meth, $5500 cash, prescription medication and packages containing 59 suboxone strips in her possession and was, therefore, arrested.Police then searched her home and allegedly found and seized 70 more suboxone strips, mobile phones, weed, a quantity of suspected meth and other drug equipment.
The woman was charged with introducing a prohibited item into a correctional facility, introducing a prohibited item into a buffer zone of a correctional facility, trafficking drugs and unlawful possession of the cash.Detective Chief Inspector Naomi Oberscheidt said police ran a number of operations targeting visitors attempting to bring drugs into jails."This seizure yesterday at Yatala Prison is indicative of our commitment to support DCS and quell the supply of contraband into prisons.
