A woman is dead after an alleged domestic violence shooting on the northeast side of Houston Sunday morning. Her husband, Ever Navarrete, fled the scene and is wanted by police.A woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital following a shooting that took place in her home. The alleged shooter was the victim’s husband, according to the Harris County Sheriff.
Early Sunday, deputies were called to the 12200 block of West Village Drive in far northeast Houston where they found a 48-year-old woman in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman later died in the hospital. The victim's husband, a 55-year-old man, reportedly fled the scene in a white 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck, with Texas plate PBV-3006, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. Sheriff's deputies were searching for the man as a person of interest in the case. Gonzalez was asking community members to contact his office at 274-9100 with any information regarding the shooting or the man's whereabouts.
The man and the victim reportedly had been separated and going through a divorce, and he was not supposed to know where the victim was living, according to what the victim’s family members told investigators,“It’s a sad situation. It’s another domestic violence situation that has taken a fatal turn,” Gonzalez told ABC13, the Chronicle's news reporting partner.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Sheriff's office representatives listed resources for anyone who may be involved in a domestic violence situation on the agency's Facebook page.
