Woman Delivers Stillborn Baby in ICE Custody, Advocates Say 'Pregnant Migrant Women Should Not Be Locked Up'A pregnant Honduran woman being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency went into premature labor and delivered a stillborn baby at the Texas detention center where she was being held on Friday.
ICE said that at some time in the evening, the woman began complaining of abdominal discomfort. She was examined by the ICE Health Service Corps . The agency said that IHSC initiated CPR and EMS transported them both to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, where the infant was pronounced dead.
In recent months, ICE has repeatedly come under fire over its detention and treatment of pregnant migrant women, with immigration advocates and human rights groups calling for an end to the practice.
