As lifeguards prepare for a busy Australia Day they are pleading with people to swim between the flags following the drowning death of a woman on a Queensland beach this morning.

A woman has drowned during an early morning swim south of Noosa this morning, with lifesavers fearing she may have been caught in a strong rip in the area at the time.Members of the public pulled her to shore after spotting her unconscious in the water about 6:20am

Emergency services were called to Marcus Beach off Callitris Crescent and Tristania Drive just after 6.20am. "From what I understand that member of public spotted a lady unconscious in the water about 6.30," Mr Purchase said.Mr Purchase said lifeguards who were about to start duty for the day also responded quickly.Surf Life Saving Regional Operations Manager Aaron Purchase.

"There was a decent size rip in the area which possibly has contributed to the lady being unconscious.
