The fatal stabbing happened at a Trenton apartment complex in June, authorities alleged.
A Trenton woman was arrested Thursday and charged with fatally stabbing her neighbor shortly after he entered her apartment last month, authorities said.
Shawnette Johnson, 42, was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and weapons-related offenses, according to a release from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation began on June 19 around 10:45 p.m., when Trenton Emergency Medical Services received a 911 call from a man reporting that his neighbor had been stabbed at 1100 Edgewood Ave., the office said.
The resident of the apartment he emerged from was identified as Johnson, and video showed her leave it about one minute later, walking toward the rear exit of the building, detectives said. She opened the back door, stepped outside and could be seen throwing away a suspected knife before going back inside, officials said.
Police later combed the area and found a steak knife with a black handle and a search of her apartment revealed additional knifes of the same type and manufacturer as the blade recovered outside, authorities said. Blood was also found on the floor, on the inside front of the apartment’s doorknob and on blue sandals that Johnson was seen wearing when she left the apartment.
