The 52-year old woman who was killed after being struck by a citybound train at Punchbowl Station in south-west Sydney has been identified as Vietnamese tourist Tuyet Nguyen.
A 52-year-old woman who died after being hit by a train at Punchbowl Station has been identified as a tourist from Vietnam as new details emerge on the item she was trying to retrieve from the tracks.
Unfortunately, once on the tracks, Ms Nguyen was unable to return to the platform and was pinned underneath the train about 3.30pm.Family members of Ms Nguyen told the publication she visited regularly to see her sister. She was rushed to hospital once she was freed more than an hour later but succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards.“This was a tragic and traumatic incident for all those involved. We thank Sydney Trains staff, emergency services, and those who rendered assistance for their efforts," a spokesperson from Sydney Trains said.
Traffic on The Boulevard were redirected by police toward Arthur Street for an hour as the rescue teams attempted to save the woman.
