A woman who fatally bashed an elderly dog walker in suburban Melbourne has been jailed for seven years.Amy Tran assaulted 77-year old Le Le in St Albans last year causing extensive head injuries which eventually killed Ms Le.
In sentencing Tran in the Supreme Court today, Justice Kevin Bell described the attack on the grandmother as a senseless crime on a defenceless woman. Tran, 32, was originally going to trial for murder, however that charge was downgraded to manslaughter to which Tran pleaded guilty yesterday. The court was told Tran had an extensive history of mental illness and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Justice Bell said Tran's behaviour on the evening of the assault was linked to her mental illness, but the attack was "savage" and a serious example of the crime of manslaughter.Related Articles
