Residents in parts of the state are being advised to action their bushfire survival plans and remain alert.
A woman has been killed by a falling tree that crushed a cabin in the state’s south, as parts of NSW are being put on alert for gusts of more than 100km/h and high fire danger.
Total fire bans are in place in parts of NSW as authorities warn residents to be alert and monitor conditions.Officers found the body of a 63-year-old woman inside the cabin. She is yet to be formally identified, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.The death comes as fire bans are in place across Sydney and in parts of the Illawarra and the South Coast, with gusts of up to 100km/h possible in parts of the state.
Along with high fire danger ratings, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and parts of the Hunter and the Mid North Coast.Strong winds of 70km/h are also expected for Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay and Eden and as far north as Newcastle.As of Monday morning, several small under-control grass fires were burning along the coast south of Sydney.Gusts of up to 113km/h were recorded at Thredbo at about 2.
