The Wilson River has peaked in the Northern Rivers town of Lismore, but parts of the town remain underwater. A search continues for a 55-year-old woman believed to be missing in floodwaters south of the town. NSWfloods 7NEWS
No trace of Ms Brakel or her car has been recovered despite searches involving Police Rescue, Water Police and NSW SES volunteers.Alina Brakel remains missing in floodwaters.Anger is growing in the community about the response from official agencies about the flood risk in the Northern Rivers region.
“We’re all just prepping for the water to recede and not knowing what the future of our town looks like,” she told“Our community was traumatised last time and I would say there’s now compounding levels of trauma.“I think the future of our town looks really uncertain and the official response is not one that has given us confidence.”AAP
“That would’ve been the time to prepare, so I don’t think it’s correct to say no one could have foreseen this ... the failure was the lack of action.“Speaking for the wider community, there are a lot of people who are angry and they’re scared and they’re screaming out for help and it feels like we’re screaming into a void.
