Netflix has officially acquired the distribution rights to Anna Kendrick's feature-length directorial debut Woman of the Hour.
. The thriller is based on the true story of Cheryl Bradshaw, who participated in an 80s’ matchmaking show titled The Dating Game, where she unknowingly chose a serial killer to go on a date with.
The outlet notes that the acquisition deal cost the streamer around $11 million. This comes after the film made its world premiere at the“In the 1970s Rodney Alcala went on a murder spree, luring women by posing as a photographer looking for models,” reads the synopsis.
Woman of the Hour is directed by Kendrick, who is also leading the movie as Cheryl Bradshaw. The film is described as a stranger-than-fiction story to examine the distressing dynamics of gender. Joining her are Tony Hale, Daniel Zovatto, and Nicolette Robinson. It is executive produced by Kendrick, Stuart Ford, Miguel A. Palos Jr., Zach Garrett, Paul Barbeau, Ian MacAllister McDonald, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Joe Penna, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Russ Posternak, Andrew Deane, and Stephen Crawford, with Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D.
