Make your contribution now and help Gothamist thrive in 2023.A woman pushed onto the subway tracks by a stranger Tuesday night is recovering with a minor leg injury while police hunt for her assailant, according to the NYPD.
Police said the attack unfolded around 11 p.m. at the Chambers Street station in Manhattan, when the 34-year-old woman was making her way around one of the staircases on the southbound platform for the 1, 2 and 3 trains.Police said the attack was unprovoked. They said they don’t know if the suspect said anything to the woman before pushing her.
No train was coming at the time, so the woman was able to get back onto the platform with help from fellow commuters, according to police.Police said the suspect fled the station. He is believed to be in his 40s, and was described as wearing a red t-shirt, a dark colored sweatshirt and tan boots.
