An investigation is underway after the body of a woman believed to be aged in her 40s was discovered on a fire trail in Sydney's affluent upper north shore.

"About 12.40pm officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command were called to Cliff Oval on Daly Avenue, North Wahroonga after reports a body had been found," a police spokesperson told SkyNews.com.au in a statement.A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death has been launched.
