When Laura cancelled her surgery last month after coming down with flu-like symptoms, she had no idea the move would leave her in limbo.

But little did the Sydney woman know that her response would throw her life, along with thousands of others, into limbo as the Australian government banned all elective surgeries in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms Milone said that within hours she heard back, with her surgeon advising her it was best that she didn't come in and rescheduled her surgery for April 3. Health Minister Greg Hunt yesterday confirmed a national cabinet meeting would be held to discuss easing up the elective surgeries ban. Left feeling like her “life was a time bomb” because of the “scary” diagnosis, Ms Milone made the decision to undergo a double mastectomy last November.“When you sort of think, ‘right, I have a 70 per cent chance of breast cancer’. For me personally I couldn’t look past that and for me the only option was to do the mastectomy.”

“And when I say hard, it’s very hard, it’s in fact made of stainless steel. So when I’ve been travelling internally I have a letter because it can set off metal detectors when you walk through an airport.”“It’s very hard so when I sleep on my front or on my side they do feel uncomfortable – it presses into the back of your chest," she said. “To be honest it’s very odd, and I’ve never experienced anything like it.
