The attack happened near to Townville Cricket Club in the early hours of Sunday morning . A large cordon was put in place, blocking off the club in Poplar Avenue, in the Airedale area.
Residents woke up on Sunday morning to see a large police presence in the area as cordons were erected to restrict access to the scene.Enquiries are ongoing and police are urging anybody with information to come forward. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police received an allegation of a sexual assault on a woman in Castleford in the early hours of Sunday, 2 June.
"The investigation is in its early stages with significant enquiries being carried out to understand the circumstances of what has taken place. "Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Wakefield Safeguarding Unit via Live Chat online or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 13240295223."
