A woman used a knife to slit the throat of her 81-year-old mother and told her she was 'going straight to the Lord.' 9News

A woman used a knife to slit the throat of her 81-year-old mother and told her she was "going straight to the Lord", a Perth court has heard.

Tania Denise Shayler is on trial in the West Australian Supreme Court charged with murdering Margaret Mitchell in Stratton in June 2017 but claims she is not guilty due to unsoundness of mind.Video played to the court yesterday showed the moment Ms Shayler took a container of Ms Mitchell's blood to WA's Parliament House at 2.45am, just a few hours after the alleged murder.

She appeared to place the container on the building's steps, kneel down and make the sign of the cross. The court heard that Ms Shayler, 49, had a long history of mental illness dating back to 1985 and had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.
