She describes her car as her 'lifeline'
A disabled woman from Nottingham has been left unable to get around after her car - which she describes as her "lifeline" - was heavily damaged in a police incident. Denise Smith was in Cinderhill Road, Bulwell, when her car was damaged by a fleeing vehicle on Thursday, May 18.
Nottinghamshire Police described the incident as "unfortunate" and has since stated officers will visit her on Thursday, June 1 in relation to what happened. The billing analyst, who works remotely, said: "When the officer came in he said don't worry about getting the car recovered, we'll do it for you and don't worry it won't cost anything.
The following day, Denise told Nottinghamshire Live she received two letters from Nottinghamshire police on behalf of Richford Motors - one about her personal belongings and another stating she had been charged for storage. She added: "It took them a week to send that out to me, so I'd already incurred a week's charges."
"I am stuck indoors completely. So if I need to go to any appointments, at the moment I'm not quite sure how that's going to work. My car is my lifeline and that's it I don't have one."Detective Sergeant Al Roper, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is an unfortunate event. We have spoken to the woman concerned and arranged to visit her tomorrow and take her to the garage to collect her belongings. The recovery of her car is being sorted out by her insurance company.
