A South Australian woman has received a suspended jail term and a Queensland woman fined for breaching hotel quarantine to go to a party in Perth.
But the women denied they had attended a “party”, saying there were only a couple of other people at the unit.Techana’s lawyer said the dancer, who has a criminal record, was looking for a “fresh start” and was intending to move to WA then send for her young daughter.“I’d met them once before but that was it,” he told Nine News.
A few recent incidents prompted a review into the quarantine system in WA, with police officers to now provide additional security at hotels where people who have been deemed “high risk” are staying. “What that means is if someone is identified as a risk, we have the legal power now to put an ankle bracelet on them, and that’s what the police will look to do,” Mr McGowan told reporters on Thursday.“If you’re putting someone into quarantine, you’re basically locking them up for at least two weeks, and then you’re putting an ankle bracelet on them. It’s pretty unusual stuff,” he said.
