NiJaree Canady’s one-hitter lifts Stanford past Washington and into Women’s College World Series semifinals
Stanford’s NiJaree Canady outlasted Washington’s Ruby Meylan in a battle of Pac-12 freshman pitchers to push the Cardinal into the national semifinals.
“Coach Allister always talks about slowing the game down, especially in this atmosphere, just trying to slow the game down,” Canady said. “I try to take a lot of deep breaths and just throw each pitch the best I can.”“It’s an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel that we don’t see much of, but it was going to be whoever bent first,” Allister said.
Washington had an opportunity in the sixth after two errors by Stanford put runners on first and third with two outs, but a pop-up to center ended the threat.
