A group of women on Mornington Island have been learning to make high-quality swags for people who in need of beds in their small, isolated community.

Jaslyn Lorraine is a deft hand with the sewing machine, but working with thick canvas requires particular skill and patience.

She has lived her entire life on Mornington Island, a mainly Indigenous community of about 1,000 people. Dan Fischer runs swag-making workshops in remote communities across Australia through his training organisation, Dreamtime Swags."These things, they're made to last," Mr Fischer said."If we can get some more beds out there and someone can get a good night's sleep, they'll get up in the morning and go to work.

But she said the women were hoping to gather as much as possible so they could make more at the next workshops in December.
