Australia's Foreign Minister was quick to condemn Iran's execution of a young protester as the regime attempts to curb more than 11 weeks of widespread dissent.

Shekari was accused of wounding a member of the pro-regime militia and blocking a street during the protests which led to his guilty verdict by the Revolutionary Court. "I stand by all of the comments made about the human rights abuses that have occurred in Iran, arising from Mahsa Amini's murder and then the subsequent actions that have occurred," Mr Albanese said in November.
