The Wonka MPA rating has been revealed for Paul King's upcoming prequel to Roald Dahl's Charlie and Chocolate Factory.
has officially been given a PG rating by the Motion Picture Association for “some violence, mild language and thematic elements.”
This comes as no surprise since Tim Burton’s 2005 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory had also been rated PG. However, this is a rare MPA rating for a Timothée Chalamet-led movie, as most of the Oscar nominee’s notable film credits, including Call Me By Your Name and Dune, were given much more mature ratings. So far, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women is the only other PG-rated movie that Chalamet has starred in besides the upcoming musical.
The prequel will be led by Chalamet as a young version of the eccentric Chocolate Factory owner. The character was previously portrayed by Gene Wilder in the iconic 1971 film as well as Johnny Depp in the hit 2005 version.
