Concerned residents of The Woodlands' Capstone neighborhood continue to protest planned construction of a new park restroom, citing safety and traffic concerns.
But thanks to a vocal neighbors’ group and 580-signature strong petition, the fight will continue at the board of directors meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.
"Many, many times we have had to cut our visits to the park short because there are no bathrooms," said Capstone resident Lourdes Harrist, who has two young children that visit the park often."The elderly, people with certain disabilities, runners, cyclists, just people in general need access to bathrooms, and we believe that all of us would benefit if bathrooms would be added.
Perry has lived next to the park for 30 years, serving as an unofficial park watchman for decades. Her 25-year-old daughter grew up going to the park’s playground, and her dad suffered a fatal heart attack while on a bike ride at the park. Perry met with Snyder at Capstone Park last week and was disappointed to hear that the township would continue with park construction despite their protests. With a three-hour notice, Perry brought a few dozen residents together to protest the park’s installment.
