Woolworths, one of Australia's largest retailers, has mandated that 10,000 support office staff return to the workplace three days a week by October. This move follows a trend among businesses, including JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, and Tabcorp, that are pushing for a return to in-office work. While some corporate leaders anticipate a full return to the office within three years, others argue that remote work is here to stay. The World Economic Forum predicts that more Australians will work from home in the future and that employers will offer more remote options to address skill shortages.

Woolworths has ordered 10,000 staff members back into the office, as one of the latest businesses to move against staff working from home. The retail giant has approximately 180,000 staff members in Australia, with 10,000 of those people working in support office roles. Woolworths issued the order in a note to staff on Monday. Support office workers will now be expected to work in the office three days a week by October, a Woolworths spokesperson confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au.

” JPMorgan Chase, Amazon and Tabcorp have all recently summoned staff back into the office, while 83 per cent of corporate leaders surveyed for a KPMG CEO outlook expect a full return to the office within three years. However, an international think tank released a report last month claiming working from home is here to stay. The World Economic Forum released its Future of Jobs Report for 2025 in January, detailing expected future employment trends.
