Contractors and subcontractors working on the $3 billion Clarke Creek wind farm in central Queensland backed by billionaire Andrew Forrest have been told to ‘demobilise’ from the site.

Contractors and subcontractors working on the site, located 150 kilometres northwest of Rockhampton and 150 kilometres south of Mackay, were told on Wednesday night to stop work and take equipment from the site. Still, the move to change contractors mid-project is unusual with one industry source saying the call to demobilise was significantly different from a temporary stand-down on the project.
“It’s a significant new power source and that’s going to increase the supply and push down power prices for every single Queenslander,” Dr Forrest toldDr Forrest said the project was a critical part of the nine-fold increase in wind and solar capacity that was needed to help Australia reachConstruction of the project started last year, with the stage one of the project to have a total capacity of 450MW and include 100 turbines.
