UPDATE: Worker Dies After Being Pulled From Collapsed Trench in Buffalo Grove
A man who was pulled from a collapsed trench in suburban Buffalo Grove Monday evening has died, officials say.
According to officials, the incident occurred Monday evening after a trench on a job site in the 1000 block of Aspen Drive collapsed, trapping a man in a deep hole. Firefighters and EMS were called to the scene just before 5:30 p.m., and it took nearly an hour to pull the worker free. NBC’s Sky 5 helicopter flew over the scene, where rescue workers were using ladders and other equipment to reach the man, who was unconscious during the attempt, according to officials.The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified the man as a 28-year-old Elmwood Park resident.We will update this story with further details as they become available.
