A Western Sydney worker has been left in a critical condition after being crushed by a 500kg boulder on Tuesday morning. 7NEWS
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was undertaking excavation work at a riverbank site on Fitch Avenue on the Nepean River when the incident occurred about 11.30am.“ was working near a small dump truck when a rock, weighing about 500kg, fell and struck him, pinning him by the lower back and left arm,” Fire and Rescue NSW said.
FRNSW crews from Penrith, Regentville and Blacktown stations were quickly on the scene with police and ambulance paramedics who provided initial treatment. The man was undertaking excavation work at a riverbank in Penrith when the boulder fell and crushed him beneath.The man was trapped for an hour before emergency services were able to extricate him.A clinical assessment was conducted by CareFlight’s critical care team which included an ultrasound to assess the man’s internal injuries.
He was taken via ambulance to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, with ongoing treatment from CareFlight’s critical care team, including blood transfusions to stabilise him.
