Women are paid 13.5 per cent less than men in the public sector and 21.7 per cent less in the private sector, according to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency scorecard.

The gender pay gap between men and women in the Commonwealth public sector in 2022 was 13.5 per cent, compared to 21.7 per cent in the private sector.The report said 48 per cent of public sector organisations had a gender-balanced management team, compared to 27 per cent in the private sector. WGEA chief executive officer Mary Wooldridge said the information in the report could be used by employers to make changes which would reduce the gap.
"The public sector should set a standard for promoting gender equality and WGEA reporting is a key part of that."
