Asian Affairs Affiliated scholar Sean King says “too often” the World Health Organisation has “taken Beijing’s lies over what should be obvious facts”.
“Between those last few weeks of December mainland China had 105 infections and 15 deaths, yet as late as January 14 Beijing was saying there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission,” Mr King told Sky News.
“And the World Health Organisation was basically retweeting Beijing’s tweets, despite the fact that Taiwan had warned the WHO in December of human-to-human transmissions,” he said. “But of course the geopolitical tensions with Beijing, Taiwan is denied an observer status at the World Health Assembly.” Image: AP
