A Deloitte report has found 74 per cent of Australian executives believe the world must act now to minimise the impact of climate change, up from 52 per cent.
Nearly three-quarters of Australian business leaders believe the world is at a tipping point in responding to climate change, which is expected to have a significant impact on their operations within the next three years.
A windmill casts a shadow on a drought-affected paddock on a property on the Liverpool Plains in NSW.Deloitte surveyed 2000 business leaders across 21 countries, and found Australia was among the top 10 countries in the world most concerned about climate change. “Climate change is both a critical challenge and critical opportunity for Australia,” Deloitte Australia chief executive Adam Powick said.“If we are bold, decisive and co-ordinated, we can mitigate downside climate risks and help attract investment, create new jobs and support our regional communities.”
Mr Morrison has insisted his government’s plan balances the urgency of addressing climate change with the need to protect industries critical to the country’s $2 trillion economy.Once a secondary election issue, climate change is now expected to be a battleground topic at the looming federal election, expected to be held in May.
