Tokyo heroes Ariarne Titmus, Kaylee McKeown and Kyle Chalmers are all back in the pool this week in Adelaide with World Championships and Commonwealth Games spots up for grabs.
The majority of Australia’s best swimmers will converge on the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre this week for the chance to qualify for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham .Ariarne Titmus, Cody Simpson and Kaylee McKeown will all compete at the Australian Swimming Championships this week.Morning heats begin at 9am Adelaide time , while finals begin at 7pm local and finish anywhere between 8:40pm to 9pm local time .
Anyone who won an individual medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year gets a free pass to Birmingham. This includes Emma McKeon , Ariarne Titmus , Kaylee McKeown , Zac Stubblety-Cook , Kyle Chalmers and Brendon Smith .Big names Cate Campbell, Bronte Campbell, Emily Seebohm and Jack McLoughlin have said they won’t be competing at the World Championships or the Commonwealth Games but have ambitions of coming back in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics, should they qualify.
Mack Horton, who won 400m freestyle gold in Rio, has entered in four events - the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle. After failing to swim in an individual event in Tokyo, it will be interesting to see if Horton can post a sharp time against Elijah Winnington, who was the favourite for gold in Tokyo before finishing a disappointing seventh.
