Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open return has ended in devastating fashion. Playing at Melbourne Park for the first time since 2021 after a series of crippling injuries derailed his career, the Aussie superstar’s comeback was ruined by the abdominal problem that forced him out of last week’s exhibition clash against Novak Djokovic. Kyrgios fought on bravely and had the packed crowd on its feet at times during the third set, but was ultimately outclassed by world No.92 Jacob Fearnley 7-6 , 6-3, 7-6 .
Todd Woodbridge added: “I heard Nick say there ‘I can’t serve, what do you want me to do?’” Fearnley dominated the tiebreaker to race out to a 6-1 lead before taking the set on his third set point. During the change of ends, Kyrgios could be seen blowing up towards his box. “I can’t f***ing serve ... just like I told you,” he yelled. The frustration continued in the early part of the second set with Fearnley breaking in the second game.
