'When I came around, George Michael was there. George Michael said “Hi Zack”, and I said “Hi George. Where the bloody hell were you?' Wrestler Zack Sabre Jr channelled the spirit of George Michael to win a massive match over the weekend.
The New Japan Pro Wrestling star – who was born in Kent, England and has developed a reputation as one of the best technical wrestlers in the world appearing for the likes of NJPW, Ring of Honor, and more over the years – was battling Aaron Henare in the G1 Climax and picked up the victory at the show in Tokyo, Japan.
After the match, Zack gave a typically tongue in cheek response in a press conference after the bout, and suggested the late Faith hitmaker helped him win the bout. He said: ‘When I couldn’t breathe, I had a vision. When I came around, George Michael was there. George Michael said “Hi Zack”, and I said “Hi George. Where the bloody hell were you?
‘”I needed your help in April. When I was challenging Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight title. You didn’t bloody show up!” George Michael said, “Sorry Zack. I was hiking with Prince in the Lake District… It’s very nice, have you been?” ‘I responded, “Not recently George Michael, no. I have more pressing matters like the G1 Climax”. I said “George, I thought you were going to be here to give me some advice. You got any advice?” ‘
