X users will start to see political ads again after they have been basically missing since 2019.
The social media company made the announcement Tuesday while detailing changes to its election and information policies.
“This will include prohibiting the promotion of false or misleading content, including false or misleading information intended to undermine public confidence in an election, while seeking to preserve free and open political discourse,” X posted. The company added, “We’re currently expanding our safety and elections teams to focus on combating manipulation, surfacing inauthentic accounts and closely monitoring the platform for emerging threats.”
On top of changing the name of the company from Twitter, Elon Musk has fired much of the staff and added a subscription model to the platform. Conservatives cheer his unbanning of many users who were exiled during the previous regime. At the same time, some advertisers have left the site. Bringing back political ads is a way for Mr. Musk’s X to make some of that lost money back.
