Chinese President Xi Jinping has signed trial outlines which could legally permit his forces to expand into other countries for reasons other than just war.

The new trial outlines - which come into effect on Wednesday - include 59 articles in six chapters and will"serve as a legal base for military operations other than war", state media Xinhua reported.

China and the Solomon Islands will also"encourage and support businesses to jointly establish marine economic cooperation parks and deep-sea fishing bases".
