Richard Fitts has been one of the best pitchers in all of Double-A this season, one of the many prized right-handed pitching prospects in the Yankees' farm system.

Fitts might not cross paths with his favorite pitcher, but his journey to the big leagues — still modeling after Strasburg’s game when the flamethrower was at his peak — is only just beginning., shining with Double-A Somerset in his second season of pro ball. In fact, he’s been one of the best pitchers in all of Double-A, leading the Eastern League with a 3.16 ERA and 139 strikeouts over 131 innings.

“I’m a fastball pitcher,” said Fitts. “I’m gonna go out there and I’m gonna try and throw it as hard as I can in the spot that I want to. I love my fastball. I think it’s something that I can really utilize at all levels and I get a lot of success with it.” “The fastball has always been his pitch and he increased velocity this year which helps,” Crawford explained. “I think the addition of a newer slider seems to keep getting better week after week and his changeup is much improved.”

When you pair the life of Fitts’ stuff with his command, it’s no wonder hitters have had such trouble putting runs on the board against him. The righty has the second-best strikeout-to-walk ratio and opposing batting average in the Eastern League. In August, Fitts has allowed one earned run in 24 1/3 innings, a 0.37 ERA over four starts.
