The man accused of killing a youth football coach during a game in Lancaster was indicted on a murder charge by a Dallas County grand jury Thursday.43-year-old Michael HickmonAccording to Lancaster police spokesman Scott Finley, witnesses said the Aug. 13 fight began because of a disagreement the coaching staffs had over a call made by game officials.
Hickmon was shot multiple times, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit, including in the back. Witnesses identified Yaqub Talib as the gunman, the affidavit says. Talib’s attorney, Clark Birdsall, said that there’s more to the story and that there’s a case to be made for self-defense. “The people that went forth to the police officers were parents of the team to which that coach was connected,” Birdsall said. “And they all conveniently forgot to mention … those self-defense issues.”
