Rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, has deleted his X account following a wave of controversy sparked by his antisemitic posts and a public attack on Taylor Swift.
Controversial rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West , has deleted his X account following a series of inflammatory posts. Just days after sharing vile antisemitic slurs on the platform, Ye sparked outrage by praising Adolf Hitler and Nazis in posts that attracted a sensitive content warning. US actor David Schwimmer publicly called for Ye's ban from X, stating, 'We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled ignorant bile, but we can stop giving him a megaphone.
' Ye's departure from X came hours after he launched a tirade against Taylor Swift, who attended the Super Bowl to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce play. Ye questioned Swift's presence on television, criticizing her song lyrics that he perceived as harmful to Black men. Ye's verified Instagram account remains active but is currently devoid of posts.Ye's controversial actions extend beyond his social media presence. He also attracted criticism for a Super Bowl advertisement promoting a website selling swastika shirts, hosted by Shopify Inc. During the National Football League's championship game, Ye urged viewers to 'go to yeezy.com.' The advertised website featured a single item for sale: a white shirt emblazoned with a black Nazi swastika, labeled HH-01. Shopify, a Canada-based company, confirmed that it hosted the site. The sale of swastika-bearing merchandise is illegal in Germany and several other countries. While the yeezy.com checkout page lists some of these countries, it's unclear if the site ships to them. This incident adds to Shopify's recent controversies, as Bloomberg reported in November that the company also hosts a store selling Holocaust denial merchandise. Despite these controversies, Shopify executives have publicly advocated for free speech and expressed concern over the rise of antisemitism
