The Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation says a 'great burden has been removed' after ORIC confirmed the end of its long-running investigation, with no findings made and no actions to be taken.
abc.net.au/news/gundjeihmi-aboriginal-corporation-nt-oric-investigation-kakadu/102843838A prominent NT Aboriginal corporation says a "great burden" has been removed after a four-year investigation into its dealings was dropped with no findings made.
At the time, then ORIC registrar Selwyn Button said an investigation into GAC was underway, but did not provide further details. "I write to confirm an investigation by my office in relation to the corporation has now concluded and I have decided to take no further action in relation to it," ORIC registrar Tricia Stroud wrote.
It criticised the way the raid had been carried out, saying the experience had been "deeply hurtful" to its directors, and said the investigation had left the board "in limbo for four years"."Gundjeihmi has nothing to hide but we have not been asked about anything since the day records and files were forcibly taken from the office for investigation," GAC spokesman Justin O'Brien said.
