The designer shares his favourite tables across the world
The Whistling Oyster I live in Acton and this fishmonger/seafood bar is local. I should have shares in the place because I’m always there. I am a big seafood lover. My whole family is. My parents used to go to Billingsgate Market at four or five in the morning just to buy prawns and crab to put into soup and stews. I often go to The Whistling Oyster on a Saturday with family and it will be an expensive Saturday. We order anchovies on toast, a pint of prawns, salmon and crab.
The menu reimagines traditional dishes such as spatchcock jerk poussin, Nigerian red stew and shellfish egusi. And the waiting staff really understand what they’re serving, which is important. If I go to a restaurant and the server can talk about the ingredients and flavours in a dish, that makes me dream about that dish.
