'You can find food in a car park': Britons take up foraging to keep food bills down

Britons are increasingly turning to foraging as the cost of living bites in an effort to become more self-sufficient and tamp down supermarket bills 🌱 “Food is literally in your back yard and people don’t know”

A necessity for many households during times of economic hardship throughout history, foraging is the act of searching for, identifying and collecting food resources from the wild that are safe to eat.

However, with the price of food ballooning alongside that of other essentials such as energy and clothing, foraging guides have witnessed an uptick in demand from members of the public anxious to source their own ingredients free where possible. The cost of living crisis has had a “definite impact on interest” in foraging, according to Liz Knight, a Hertfordshire-based forager and the author ofFood that is edible and free is growing everywhere, not just in the countryside, said Ms Knight, who has been leading foraging courses for over a decade.
