Robyn Lambird after winning bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.Lambird doesn’t do it for the medals, though, it’s about championing the LGBTQ+ community and people living with a disability.

Lambird is Australia’s only non-binary athlete competing at the Games in Birmingham and was one of only two non-binary athletes at Tokyo. The other was Canadian soccer player Quinn, who identifies as both transgender and non-binary, and was part of the team that won Olympic gold in the women’s tournament in Tokyo.

However, they also say that it’s more important now than ever to have discussions about inclusivity in sport after world swimming’s governing body FINA banned transgender women from competing at an elite level, and more recently, the controversy surrounding the Manly Sea Eagles’ “everyone in league” jersey.
